Obituary for Thaddeus Stepp

GREEN CREEK – Thaddeus Kermit Stepp, 52, of Green Creek, passed away Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at his home.

Born in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, he was the son of Sarah Hill Hughes (Jim) of Mills River and the late Don Kermit Stepp. Thad was a graduate of Carolina Day School in Asheville and went on to work in several occupations. He first earned a Horse Farrier certificate form Montana State, and worked at Bell South for several years. He also worked as an electrician and later began a career as a machinist. Thad lived in Asheville most of his life, he moved to Green Creek in 2021. 

He had a passion for the outdoors, he enjoyed playing and watching soccer, taking care of the horses, a donkey and his dogs. He also loves fishing and hunting. He was an avid Wake Forest fan. He had a kind soul and big heart, He had a great sense of humor and was very likable to those around him. He often made people laugh and loved to tell stories and reminisce about the past.

Surviving in addition to his mother are two sons, Jacob Kermit Stepp of Asheville and Nate Sumner Stepp of Asheville; one daughter, Sarah Kathryn Stepp of Asheville; the mother of his children, Samantha Stepp of Asheville; one sister, Millicent McMillan (Mac) of Asheville; one half-sister, Amanda Stone (Trey) of Supply, North Carolina; one half-brother, Aaron Stepp (Jeremy Sczepaniak) of Omaha, Nebraska; nephews and nieces, Derek, Kurtis, Drew, Nic, Brody, Eli and Oliver; four aunts, Jean Dalton (Donald) of Edneyville, Mary Henry (Bub Hyder) of Bearwallow, Nancy Prior (Scott) of Cummings, Georgia and Karen Carswell (Tony) of Edneyville. Also surviving are many cousins.

A private celebration of Thad’s life will be held Sunday at Marie’s Chapel.
