Obituary for Roger Janney

SIMPSONVILLE -- Roger Allen Janney, 72, of Simpsonville, passed away January 12th, 2024.

He was born in Pikeville, Kentucky on February 14th, 1951, to Hursel Janney Sr. and Kelsie Bishop Janney. Mr. Janney was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps having served in Vietnam. He went on to serve as an officer with Landrum Police Department, Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office and served as Chief of Police at Campobello Police Department. Mr. Janney was a member of Glassy Mountain Baptist Church in Landrum.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Barbara, one daughter still at home, Meghan Janney and four children from a previous marriage, Kathy Ruchala (Andy), Candy Hyder, Danielle Harrison (Gene), and Allen Baldwin (Angelica). He also has five grandchildren, Michael, David, Montana, Daniel, and Kelsey. Two great grandchildren, Sebastian and Serena.  Roger also has one surviving sister, Judy Janney of Columbus, Ohio. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl Douglass, and Hursel (Buddy) Janney. Three sisters, Audrey Whited Wright, Margaret Janney Adkins (Sissy), and Brenda Janney Justice.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, January 20, 2024, at Glassy Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery in Landrum with Reverend Jimmy Cox officiating.

Military honors will be conducted by the Polk County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard.
