Obituary for Robert Barnhart

COLUMBUS -- Robert David Barnhart, 75, of Columbus, North Carolina passed away unexpectedly following countless health issues that kept him in and out of the hospital the last 4 years. Despite his illness, he enjoyed pranking his nurses and making people smile.

Fondly known as "Bob", he was born in Allegheny, Pennsylvania, June 26, 1948, to Thomas and Joan Barnhart but spent most of his youth in Atlanta, Georgia before entering The Citadel with the Class of 1970. Bob majored in Business Administration and was a proud member of F Company, where he made forever-friends. At The Citadel, Bob was a Bond Volunteer and was a member of the Rod and Gun Club and the Society of American Military Engineers. He was also a very active member of the Denominational Group. Following graduation, Bob served in the South Carolina Army National Guard. Bob then worked in the banking and investment industry before becoming an owner/operator of a pest control business for over 20 years.

Bob will always be remembered by his classmates, and especially by all his F Troop brothers, as a man with a big heart and as someone that could bring a smile to your face. While Bob left us far too soon, the impact he had on his Citadel classmates and family will be felt for years to come. Bob will mostly be remembered by his great ability to make people laugh and his sense of humor will be sorely missed.

Bob is survived by a daughter, a stepdaughter, three sisters, a brother, a granddaughter, and three step-grandchildren.

A private Mass hosted by family will be decided sometime later this summer.
