Obituary for Collette Henderson

Collette DeKeizer Henderson, 53, of Hendersonville, North Carolina, passed away on Monday, April 15, 2024.

Collette was born November 25, 1970, in Flint, Michigan, to Phillip and Dawnine DeKeizer. She was a graduate of East Henderson High School and was employed by the Blue Ridge Humane Society, work which she LOVED. Her comedic and passionate spirit was characterized by her love of people. Anyone who knew Collette would not be able to pick a favorite of the many stories about her. Collette sensed people’s pain and needs, took them into her heart, and wanted to immediately make them feel better, whether through words of affirmation or one of her countless gifts. The overflowing number of little presents she bestowed was thoughtful, unique, funny, sweet, and sometimes a combination of it all.

Hidden in her sharp wit and infectious humor was a heart that was too big. Too big for our world that could not contain her. We are crushed at our aching loss but at peace that she is in a better place. Collette was a strong force that swept into our lives. She was a supportive sister, endearing friend, cherished mother, devoted wife, treasured daughter. Collette always made people feel wanted, needed, and loved.

Collette is survived by her husband, David L. Henderson, her son, Phillip David Henderson (Bailee), future granddaughter due in July, and her parents, Phillip & Dawnine DeKeizer, all of Hendersonville. She also leaves behind two sisters, Mary Ellen DeBerry and Suzanna DeKeizer Waddell (Beau) and nephews Deke and Kruz Waddell; brother-in-law Robby Henderson (Kim), nephew Kemper Henderson (Miranda), great-nephew Asher Henderson, and niece Kaitlin Schneider (Danny); sister-in-law Lisa Hill (Robert) and nephews Gary and Evan Hill; and her father- and mother-in-law, Robert and Esther Henderson.
